POMPEII, THE BURIED CITY

Duration: Half day (about 4 hours)
Pompeii is the most famous and evocative archaeological site in the world as it can offer us the image of a Roman city as a whole. The eruption of the volcano Vesuvius took place in 79 AD.  At that time a 6-7 meter thick layer of ash and cinder all of a sudden buried the city and its inhabitants. Nowadays visitors walking among the excavations feel like being in the past, public and private homes with well preserved objects and furniture and even bodies’ moulds of its inhabitants,  temples, Roman baths, a Basilica, a theatre and an amphitheatre, a gymnasium,  mosaics, frescoes, paintings,   and even a brothel are only some pieces of this unrivalled treasure of history. Pompeii is really a unique experience, “the impression remains ineffaceable” as Henry James wrote in 1900. Comfortable and casual shoes and a hat are recommended.

Half day tour: Euro 50.00 per person. Minimum number of persons required for each tour: 15, max 25
Cost includes bus transportation to and from Hilton Sorrento Palace/Pompei, entrance ticket, licensed English speaking guide, bus parking.

POSITANO, THE GEM OF THE DIVINE COAST

Duration: Half day (about 4 hours)
Positano is set into the mountains, behind the Lattari Mountains (a regional park) which shield it from the northern winds making the climate mild during most of the year and the vegetation uncontaminated with rich cultivations such as vineyards, olive and lemon trees. Positano is picturesque and from the sea it looks like a huge nativity scene with multicoloured houses climbing steeply the hill. The village develops vertically, the houses are characterized by arched porticoes and its inhabitants enrich them with wonderful flowers. Narrow streets are lined with boutiques and local artists and artisans sell fabrics, hand-made leather footwear, ceramics and paintings and it is nice walking here and enjoying a unique view of the sea. The “made in Positano” fashion nowadays is known the world over. The myth of the Sirens is believed to come from the Sirenuse archipelago, made of three small rocky islets where the Sirens used to live and attract seafarers with their chants. The islets are right in front of Positano.
Only small vehicles (max 14 seats) are allowed to reach the Positano city center.
Comfortable and casual shoes are recommended.

Half day tour: Euro 60.00 per person. Minimum number of persons required for each tour: 9, max 14

VESUVIUS, THE NEAPOLITAN SYMBOL

Duration: Half day (about 4 hours)
The mount Vesuvius in continental Europe it is the sole active volcano. It is located  East of Naples. The height of the main cone has been constantly changed by eruptions but presently it is 1,281 m (4,202 ft) and its crater’s circumference is about 1,500 mt.. Unesco gave to Vesuvius National Park (which includes also Pompeii) the “World Biosphere Reserve” status. It was formed after the collision of the African and of the Eurasian tectonic plates and the mountain started to form 25,000 years ago. Since the eruption of 79 AD, which destroyed Pompeii and Herculaneum, Vesuvius has erupted around three dozen times; the last major eruption took place in 1944.
The Vesuvius National Park offers to visitors 9 trails. By bus it is possible to get to 1,000 mt. height and then alpine guides will take visitors to the crater by foot. The flora and fauna are also remarkable in the area with typical Mediterranean vegetation, pine-woods and holm-oak stands.
We suggest to have trekking or hiking shoes with you.

CAPRI ISLAND

Duration: Full Day & Half Day (afternoon)
The Full day tour will include, weather condition permitting, a three hours tour of the island by boat: the island perimeter is about nine miles long, the typical caprese boat, “the gullet”, will offer the chance to enjoy its magic. Starting from the Capri Port the tour will flank the beach of Marina Grande and the Roman Tiberio Baths to admire the ruins of one of the twelve villas built by the emperor Augustus, the world famous Blue Grotto is another jewel of the island: the emperor Tiberius chose it as its personal nymphaeum, here special light conditions together with clear sky make the water really blue. Then, continuing westwards visitors will be able to admire creeks and other grottos (the Saint’s grotto, the Red and the Green and the Dark Grottoes and the Faraglioni rocks). At the end of the island tour: transfer to the city center known as “la Piazzetta” – literally small square - for lunch at one of the typical local restaurants. The Square Umberto I is famous around the world. The island half day tour will start from here: the group will leave the square and make its way with the guide into the narrow streets of the town wandering down Via Vittorio Emanuele and Via Camerelle for more breathtaking views and special corners. The tour will go on to Via Krupp, a street which was named after the German industrial magnate who had built it; the Augustus’ Gardens, vegetation richness and loveliness of surroundings are the perfect background for a peaceful reflection.

St. James Monastery, it was built in 1371, probably over the remains of a Roman Villa. It reflects the style of the island with a series of small domed roofs, vaults and arches.

Tragara is a panoramic point, from here it is possible to admire the magnificence of the monolithic Rocks known as “Faraglioni” and have a wonderful view of the Capri coastline.
